Aston Martin team driver Fernando Alonso has expressed his strong desire to win his third Formula 1 world title within two to three years. During an event organized by team sponsor Cognizant, Alonso answered questions from fans in Chennai, where he made it clear that his top priority is Formula 1. Alonso, who has already won two world championships in 2005 and 2006, was optimistic about Aston Martin’s future, especially with the arrival of renowned engineer Adrian Newey in March 2025.
‘I am very, very focused on Formula 1 now. For the next two or three years I want to win the third world title. This is my first and only priority at the moment. And then, because I will be 45, 46, we will see when the time comes how I am,’ said the Asturian, receiving enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Indianapolis 500 as a new challenge
When asked by a fan if he plans to return to the Indianapolis 500, Alonso answered honestly: ‘Not at the moment‘. Although he acknowledged the attraction of achieving the Triple Crown of motorsport, which includes winning the Monaco Grand Prix and Le Mans, the Asturian driver emphasized that his current priority is Formula 1. ‘If I can win the Dakar, I think it will be enormously gratifying for me,’ he added, referring to his desire to conquer this prestigious competition. Alonso also mentioned that the commitment required to compete in the Indy 500 would be too much, given the learning curve he would have to redo. Looking to the future, he is motivated by the possibility of being a complete driver and has made it clear that his ambition remains intact.
