The 2026 British Grand Prix, held at the historic Silverstone circuit, proved to be a race full of excitement and unexpected twists. Charles Leclerc secured a crucial victory for Ferrari following a very solid performance, putting the Italian team back on the top step of the podium at one of the most iconic circuits on the calendar.
The race began with Kimi Antonelli starting from pole position following a strong performance in qualifying. However, the young Italian driver got off to a difficult start and lost several places to the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Whilst Leclerc took the lead, Antonelli tried to stay in contention and make up ground as the race progressed.
For several laps, the Mercedes driver maintained a competitive pace and even managed to put himself back in contention for victory. However, the race took a complete turn in the final stages after he suffered mechanical problems with his car. A fault in the front left-hand side affected the car’s performance and forced the Italian to gradually lose positions.
Russell and Hamilton complete the podium at Silverstone
The battle for the podium places was intense right up until the final laps. George Russell capitalised on the race circumstances and a good strategy to finish second with Mercedes, whilst Lewis Hamilton managed to secure a podium finish with Ferrari in front of his home crowd following a closely fought race.
Hamilton came very close to finishing even higher up the order, but a strategic decision during a late Safety Car period ultimately undermined his chances. Despite this, Ferrari managed to get both its drivers into the top three and secured one of its best results of the season.
Verstappen’s crash and a finish under the safety car
The final stages of the Grand Prix were marked by a moment of great tension following Max Verstappen’s crash. The Red Bull driver lost control of his car after experiencing problems with the rear wing and was forced to retire, prompting the deployment of the safety car.
The incident prevented the race from restarting, and the Grand Prix finished behind the safety car, with the final positions remaining unchanged until the chequered flag. Silverstone thus brought to a close a weekend full of excitement, with Ferrari celebrating a very important victory and Antonelli seeing his lead at the top of the championship standings reduced.
