In a thrilling race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, Ducati rider Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia took victory in the MotoGP Grand Prix. The Italian took advantage of a crash by Marc Marquez, who was leading by more than two seconds on lap nine, to take the lead and hold it until the finish line.

Marc’s brother Álex Márquez put in an outstanding performance to finish second, which moved him into the world championship lead with 87 points, one ahead of his brother. Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the podium, securing third place for Ducati.

The race was marked by changeable weather conditions, including a light rain beforehand and a red flag before the start due to massive tyre changes. These factors contributed to an incident-filled race, including crashes for other notable riders such as Joan Mir and Pedro Acosta.

Highlights of the race

Marc Marquez, who started from pole position and had won his third consecutive sprint race, crashed on lap nine while leading with a comfortable advantage. The Spanish rider lost control at turn four when he cut the apex too much, which resulted in the loss of the front end of his Honda. Despite the impact, Márquez was unhurt and acknowledged his mistake, stating that his confidence remains intact and that he will continue to work to improve in the coming rounds of the championship.

Another incident of note was the crash of Joan Mir, who was in the top five when he lost control at turn 11 due to the low grip of the asphalt after the light rain before the race. Pedro Acosta, one of the great promises of MotoGP, also had an unfortunate ending after a touch with Maverick Viñales at turn 12, which forced him to abandon the race.

Championship standings after the GP of the Americas

With his second place in Austin, Álex Márquez becomes the new championship leader with 87 points, just one point behind his brother Marc Márquez, who has 86 points thanks to his two victories so far this season. The battle between the brothers promises to be one of the great attractions of the year.

Francesco Bagnaia, winner of the Austin Grand Prix, moves up to third with 75 points, closing the gap and keeping himself in the title fight. Further back, Franco Morbidelli is fourth with 55 points, while Fabio Di Giannantonio closes the top five with 44 points, consolidating Ducati’s dominance in the 2025 season.

With the next race in Qatar, the championship is still open and any mistake could be key in the fight for the lead.
